Daugavpils Fortress is a unique cultural and historical architectural monument of national importance. Daugavpils Fortress is also considered as the last bastion-type fortress in the world that has been preserved without any significant alterations since the early 19th century.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre is a multifunctional complex of contemporary art, culture and education situated in the Arsenal building at Daugavpils Fortress. It is the only place in Eastern Europe where the original masterpieces of the famous painter and the founder of the abstract expressionism Mark Rothko can be seen.
Daugavpils cietokšņa Kultūras un informācijas centrs ir atklājis jaunu vēsturisko ekspozīciju, kas ir izvietota Nikolaja vārtos – “Nikolaja vārti (Durvis pagātnē)”.
Here, in the artificially created jungles, visitors can see spotted pythons, spectacled caimans bathing in the sun, red koi carps swimming in the ponds, playful macaques and sugar gliders jumping in the lianas and other swimming, whistling, crawling, hopping and flying tropical creatures.
The Daugavpils Theatre is one of the oldest professional theatres in Latvia. It is the only professional theatre in Latgale.
Daugavpils Regional Studies and Art Museum is one of the oldest museums in Latgale, founded in 1938. Located at 8 Rigas Street, in a magnificent building constructed in 1883.
The biggest entertainment complex in Latgale with an area of more than 500m². Various entertainment facilities available for both children and teenagers. The entire playground is divided into zones where children of different ages can play together without interfering with each other. It is also possible to celebrate birthday parties in a separate room. There is a mini café available where you can have a snack or drink.
Easy science for children: exhibits that allow to look at things from a different and unusual point of view.
The centre offers the possibility to get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Latgale – ceramics and pottery traditions. This is the only place in Latvia where visitors can see and learn about the hardened Baltic raku ceramics which is being matured in fermented rye-flour liquid.
Different automobile brands are represented in the exhibition – 22 “Moskvich”, 2 “Zhiguli”, “Volga” and “Mercedes” cars. This is probably the largest “Moskvich” collection in the Baltic States.
The exposition of Medical History is located in Daugavpils Medical College. This is the only one exposition in Latgale that reflects the theme of the history of medicine.
Central Beach offers a wide choice of leisure activities for everyone – a pedestrian route for walks, which is illuminated at night, a bicycle path for cyclists, an open area for sports activities with the outdoor exercise equipment, a free beach volleyball court and other. A unique lake pontoon construction is available for visitors of the beach. The construction consists of the lake promenade, the 25-meter outdoor swimming pool with 4 lanes, jumping tower and children’s swimming pool.
The active rest and sports track is located in the Daugavpils Stropi Forest. The length is approximately three kilometres (1.1 km – elevation, 2.8 km – plain).
In Daugavpils, near Lielais Stropu Ezers lake, there is a tourism attraction – adventure park “Daugavpils Tarzāns”. Obstacle park is suitable for children as well as for adults for active leisure. It will be interesting for both children and adults, since the tracks are tailored to different interests. The park consists of 9 obstacle tracks with different degrees of difficulty.
This is a new permanent exposition that tells about the history of Latvia from the foundation of the country to the present day. A very cozy exposition with patriotic title “My Latvian Stories” is located in Daugavpils Medical College and is waiting for its visitors.
Daugavpils Fortress is a place where the second largest in the Baltic States hibernating bat colony inhabits. The fortress walls with a high humidity, as well as a special microclimate in the fortifications create favorable conditions for dwelling. Exposition of the Daugavpils Bat Centre is located in the lateral room of the Niсholas Gate in Daugavpils Fortress.
On the right bank of the Daugava River, in the vicinity of Gayok district the Bruģu Street promenade has been built. It is aimed at giving the streets a new, functional look and meaning. After completion of the Bruģu Street promenade, Daugavpils city acquired a new, facilitated area for strolling and enjoying the splendour of nature.
Boat rental “Beibuki” in Daugavpils offers trips along the Daugava River with motorised raft “Sola” and boat “Dina”. When going on trips along Daugava River it is possible to choose and coordinate the length, duration and direction of the water route.
There is a 3km long pedestrian pathway on the shore of Lielais Stropu Lake. The promenade connects the Central Beach and the “Stropu vilnis” Beach. It is a great place to go for a walk, breathe in the fresh air, and spend time actively.
It is possible to learn about the Latvian folk traditions by working practically, participating in workshops and classes in the House of Traditions. Traditional Latvian festivities are celebrated here, folk craft workshops, exhibitions, training sessions on playing folk musical instruments, seminars on traditional Latvian festivals, games and dances, as well as dance evenings, conversations and discussions on preservation of intangible cultural heritage are held here.
Music Square in Esplanade Rest Park is a place for rest and walks in Daugavpils. The central theme of the new recreation and walking area is the sounds of music in an urban environment. There are various music instrument in the open air which allow to both hear and feel the music in its various forms. There are 10 different outdoor musical instruments – drums, xylophone, tube bells and other interesting objects.
Central park in modern park with numerous flower beds and plants is a real jewel in the heart of the Daugavpils city.
Visitors of the centre can use 25 m swimming pool with 6 lanes, depth 1.35 m – 1.85 m and 12 m x 6 m small swimming pool, depth 0,95 m. For relaxation, the excellent solution is the spa zone which additionally offers the sauna, steam bath and massage baths to combine with a refreshing swim.

Esplanade Rest Park is the first bike park in the Baltics covering an area of 4 hectares in the urban environment. This park includes a variety of areas – a skatepark, an asphalted cycling track, an adventure trail and a children’s area. The park is multifunctional and is adapted for 8 different vehicles – mtb, bmx, street, balance bike, skateboard, longboard, roller skates and scooter.
Lielais Stropu Lake is the largest water body in Daugavpils that attracts many holidaymakers during the summer season. Every year International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) designates a Blue Flag Award for high environmental and quality standards to Central Beach of Lielais Stropu Lake.
The “WATER LAND” Water Amusement Park is located in Rugeļu Reservoir. Rugeļu Reservoir is located just 4 km from the Daugavpils city centre and is a popular place for recreation.
E-scooter or Ninebot KickScooter by Segway ES2 is available for rent at the Park Hotel Latgola. It can reach the speed of 25 km/h and it is capable to drive up to 25 km without any additional battery charge.
“E-bike” offers electric bicycle, go-cart and SUP board rental service at Central Beach of Lielais Stropu Lake.
Entertainment and leisure complex “Orange Bowling” invites visitors to enjoy modern bowling with 10 lanes and world famous brand “Brunswick” equipment. “Orange Bowling” welcomes guests to play air hockey, billiard and various non-gambling games.
Art studio “Putra” is an artist’s Oksana Vronska graphic workshop established in cooperation with forging studio “Edgara Vronska kalēju studija”. Visitors are invited to attend various graphic technique lessons and demonstrations. Graphic lessons develop dimensional imagination, creative thinking and fantasy, and helps to bring into life interesting ideas.
The Pearl of Olimpija is Speleoclimatic chamber with a magnificent microclimate, made from salt layers, which over 250 million years ago. Offers: 25 m swimming pool, bathhouses, salt bathhouse, bio-bathhouse and hot tubs-spa.
Colorful cafe specially designed for children, where every child will feel like in a fairy tale. Children’s menu with a wide range of dishes is available. Business lunch is available from 12 pm to 3 pm. Organisation of children’s banquets for up to 15 people.
“Funny Land” Children’s Entertainment Centre is one of the biggest children’s entertainment centres in Latgale with an area of 350m2. The centre is located within a short driving distance from the city centre and 300m away from the public transport stop. The parking for 20 cars is available nearby.
Boating with canoes offers various routes around Lielais Stropu Lake and Mazais Stropu Lake.
The salon offers to view and purchase historical furniture, dishes, clocks a.o. interior objects from the late 19th and early 20th century.
The Blue Flag beach of Lielais Stropu Lake “Stropu Vilnis” offers rental of water bikes, row-boats and kayaks.
Family Digital Activity Hub is a great place for recreation and entertainment with family and friends. Digital Activity Hub is the place to explore the technology of the 21st century. “SotKajak Daugavpils” offers boat trips along Daugava River with a “Sikspārnis” boat. During the trip, passengers can see the Unity Bridge, Daugavpils districts, Daugavpils Fortress and get to know the biological diversity of the river and its coasts.
