The House of Traditions is a cultural space where traditional cultural values are accumulated and popularised. It is possible to learn about the Latvian folk traditions by working practically, participating in workshops and classes in the House of Traditions. Traditional Latvian festivities are celebrated here, folk craft workshops, exhibitions, training sessions on playing folk musical instruments, seminars on traditional Latvian festivals, games and dances, as well as dance evenings, conversations and discussions on preservation of intangible cultural heritage are held here. The House of Tradition also offers to get to know the culinary heritage.
A new and modern exhibition about crafts and lifestyle is available for viewing in the House of Traditions. The exhibition of crafts and life skills is dedicated to the world of the Latgalian farmstead – a place where people’s everyday life, work and family life took place throughout the seasons. The exhibition offers a modern perspective on ancient craft skills, allowing them to be explored through visual images, sound, action and interactive stories. The center of the exhibition is an interactive installation that allows visitors to choose which stories to follow – about work on the farm, the rhythm of the seasons, or craft skills that have shaped the way of life of Latgale from generation to generation.
Classes, master classes and other events are held in the House of Traditions. Registration for classes is mandatory.
