The Rainis Centre is a cultural space in the Grīva district, managed by the Latgale Central Library. It invites both locals and visitors to discover the history, heritage, and remarkable figures connected to the left bank of the Daugava River.
Three exhibitions are available for visitors, offering an opportunity to explore not only the history of Grīva and Rainis, but also other notable personalities connected with Grīva who hold an important place in Latvia’s history. Among them are botanist, plant geographer, mathematician, and philosopher Karl Reinhold Kupfer, as well as graphic artist Rihards Zariņš — one of the creators of the Latvian coat of arms and the author of designs for securities, banknote,s and coins — who lived and studied in Grīva at the end of the 19th century.
The Rainis Centre is located in the building of the former J. Raiņis Daugavpils 6th Elementary School.
The Centre is open to visitors on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
