Date: 06.07.2019

Time: 11:00

Place: Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, 3 Mihaila Street, Daugavpils

At 11 a.m. on Saturday 6 July in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre Marietta Patricia Leis, distinguished American artist, participant of the Venice Biennale, author of many solo exhibitions and participant of numerous international residencies, will give a public lecture “My Life in Art”. At noon sharp, the artist will follow it up with a master class “Armature of Abstract Art”.

Marietta Patricia Leis’s solo show “Air” at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will be opened on Friday 5 July along with other exhibition projects. On 6 July, as a follow-up to her exhibition, the artist invites art enthusiasts to a lecture about herself, her previous ideas and projects and about artist lives in America. The lecture will continue with a master class for adults with prior knowledge in art.

The class will help artists to explore the substance and conviction inherent in good abstract art. Leis will lead the participants in a series of painting exercises using Clifford Still and Mark Rothko as examples; copies of Still’s and Rothko’s works will be used as underpinnings, upon which students will build their own paintings. There will be a critique of the work executed during the class to help all participants to learn from one another. Also, participants of the master class will be able to access Marietta Patricia Leis’s solo show “air” free of charge.

All necessary supplies will be provided by the organisers. Participation fee is EUR 5 . Both the lecture and the class will be in English.

The number of places at the master class is limited. Applicants must register in advance until 4 July via e-mail to tatjana.cernova@daugavpils.v or via phone +371 65430273.
